Re: fuel pump

What year? If the fuel pump leaks when you pump the bulb, then it probably sucks air when not under pressure which would cause lack of WOT RPM. Sounds like it is time for them to be rebuilt.

Re: fuel pump

i dont know the year but it is on a 1991 bayliner the engine serial number is A158656, i bought a kit and replaced all the gaskets and diapram in the pump but it still leaked when i squeezed the primer just barely though. i tightened the screw in the middle of the plastic piece where the hose connects (which is where it was leaking) do these things get cracks in them or something? also cleaned fuel filter the tank and bulb, line is also new.thanks for replying

Re: fuel pump

Does the fuel pump look like the attached?
Is your motor a 3/4 cyl 2/4 stroke?

Re: fuel pump

You must have one of the WMK series carbs. See pic. There are several gasket kits for these and you need to make sure you have the correct one. Also the Strainer covers do crack easily when he motors get older and you are messing around with the fuel lines. Check this site. http://www.maxrules.com/fixmercurycarbkits2.html#13959023
