I am almost sure the carb filter is cloged but would like to see if anyone can think of anything else. Was out in the boat Fathers Day with the family and the boat was running great for hours then . I started to pull my son in the tube and it all started. In the low rpm range she runs fine but when I take the rmp's up to WOT it started to I want to say runs out of gas but it doesn't die sputters kinda but when I take down the trottle she runns good again. Now I think It is the filter is cloged at least i hope. Maybe the pump but i have been told the engine will die if it was the pump. Anything anyone can add would be great thanks Jay.
1994 bayliner 135 mercruiser

Re: Fuel Question

The filter is the best and least expensive place to start. If it hasn't been chnged, it's way overdue.

JwoJick, If the situation doesn't improve after changing filters..., check the anti siphon valve in the fuel tank pickup tube. That can get stuff stuck in it and restrict fuel flow. I had it happen!

Re: Fuel Question

If you've checked all the places suggested above, and still have the problem, you should check the fuel pump and see if there is a small micro-filter where the fuel tank line meets the pump. I've had an experience with that and it sounds exactly like what you are experiencing. That tiny filter will collect debri, clog up, and shut down the fuel flow until you back off the gas or shut down. Then the pressure in the lines will kick back, clearing that micro filter.
When you start back up the debri will start clogging that tiny filter all over again.
Good luck.....
