Fuel sender help

Good day.

Since i bought my boat the fues guage has not worked. so i figure its time to fix that..

i have narrowed it down to either the sender unit or the guage.

it looks like the sender is grounded to the tank via a metal tab ( so is bilge pump and blower) Does this sound right?

then there id sender has wire going to the guage.. Correct?

i have my test light. Where should i start to see whether it is the sender or guage??

Ayuh,... The Power goes from the (+) side of the gauge to the sender side of the gauge to the center of the sending unit...
Grounding out the center of the sender should Peg the gauge to Full....
And,...
No,... The rest of the electrical stuff should Not be grounded to the fuel tank, but to the Battery...

Hmmm... well it seems like this came from the factory like this...

Can i leave it. it seems to be working fine. Or Must a re-route everything to the battery?

I have to agree with silvertip. Take your fuel gauge sender out and it should be 2 wires one is black other one is red or pink. Put it on a desk and connect a ohmmeter on it. then move the ring or the float up and down slowly and see if the readings resistance changes. It should be between 33-235ohms..
And make sure you disconnect the one side of the battery when you are taking the sender unit out.

Hi There,

I Have A Sea Fox 257c The Fuel Gauge Is Not Working I Check If Power Was Going To It And It Is However It Does Not Work I Am Having Trouble Finding The Sending Unit Since This Is The First Outboard Boat I Ever Owned I Also Had A Crusier And The Sending Unit Was Easy To Find .can Anyone Help Me Out With This .

Thats a good article, I took my empty aluminum 75 gal tank in to the prop repair shop to have it pressure tested some corrosion and a hole fixed the PO drilled and didnt tell me about. they replaced the sender and gave me some peace of mind for $100 cash. worth every penny.
