Hi installing elec fuel sender unit in tank.
Which is the best way to point float.I ask this because looking at boat on trailer tank is tilted back same as in water. I would like to get reading as close to true as possible.Thinking about cruising and use level to see where level is and use wedges under tank to correct gauge.Instructions say to run float along lenth of tank, which is correct when level, but when under way most of the fuel has to go to the rear of tank.has any one solved this problem or is it the way it is.
thank you from down under.. Re: fuel sender unit

The $64,000 question. With mine I like to have the float 'upstream' so that when the gauge reads empty I know that I still have 15 or 20 litres left - this method only works if you DON'T rely on the 15 or 20 litres - emergency use only. I only use the gauge as a guide - a fuel usage computer is much more accurate.

Aldo

Flips, no need to buy from the U.S. They are readily available downunder, heaps of mail order sites. I got mine from CH.Smith online chandlery. The Navman range is made in NZ.

Another problem you will have if you buy it from the U.S. is that Aussie dealers won't honor the warranty.

http://www.chsmith.com.au/

http://www.whitworths.com.au/main_specials.asp

http://www.boatshop.com.au/

http://www.biasboating.com.au/index.html

Aldo

Flips if this is a big concern of yours take out a portable tank with you and run off of the main while watching the fuel guage. When you run dry use the portable to get home. Cheap way of knowing what your guage shows when you are really empty.

I would not do this without a good fuel filter as there may be some crud at the bottom of the main tank.
