Fuel Sender wire?

I just mounted a 150 VMax on my Javelin and the wiring conversion has turned into somewhat of a project. Does anyone know how to trace (or locate) the fuel sender wire from the console to the tank? I'm using some of the original gauges in my Javelin 379B. The Ignition and ground pegs were easy enough to identify, but it looks like the sender side was intagrated into the OMC harness that I just pulled out. There is also a wire that is looped from the water pressure gauge over to the fuel gauge. This one has a bayonett type connector. What does this one do...and do I need to re-attatch it?

Thanks for any help....I really appreciate it.

Gerald

Don’t know without seeing, but if I remember correctly the fuel sending wire should be pink. It may be wired into the harness to receive voltage only when the ignition is on. The wire from gauge to gauge may be the voltage for the gauge lights. Just guessin’ … :)

The fuel sender wire probably will never have voltage. It will have a resistance of between 20-270ohms to ground. As you fill the tank the resistance changes. The fuel gauge will require power (switched), the sender and ground.

The looped wire will be either power, ground or instrument light power. Should be easy to tell with a multimeter. If you don't have a meter, get one. A cheap one will do fine.

Re: Fuel Sender wire?

Thanks for the help!!!...I did finally find the sender wire, it was the pink one. I run a new Ignition and ground wire from the Yamaha wire harness and now have my gauge back. I'm still not sure about the looped wire, but I'll take a closer look at it today. The boat has Faria gauges and I've never had backlights on any of the instruments. Do these guages have the ability for illumination? If so, whoever did the initial setup missed something. Anyway..thanks again, this is a great board.

Gerald

Faria gauges all have illumination. Whoever wired them probably has them "daisy chained" together and one of the connections is loose or just not made, causing none of the lights to work.
