yeah they told me to disconnect the green ground wire as part of the troubleshooting. I'll hook the ground wire back to one of the mounting bolts...thanks for the input all. I'm just glad its working, despite the fact it makes no damn sense...

Never disconnect the bonding wire. static electricity and fuel do not mix.

After following their instructions (to no avail)...I hooked up the black wire from the sending unit, to the pink signal wire going to the gauge. THEN after grounding the pink wire from the sending unit, the gauge is working perfectly.

..

the reason this works, is your gauge is a variable resistor. you have it hooked up backwards, however one lead to ground like everyone has been saying and one lead to the S terminal on the gauge.

however Black is ground, and Pink is the signal wire.

and yes, the idiot at Kus is just that, an idiot.

follow their schematic in their instructions. everything else is suspect.

Sam - I'm glad its not just me. And now I'm doubly angry at myself for throwing away my old sending unit before testing it...I just can't make sense how the old sender had the +12v wire hooked up and it worked just fine for years.

Scott Danforth - thanks for the input. I did like you said and swapped the pink/black wire, since it appears not to be pole sensitive. So now my pink wire goes to the pink on the sender, my black goes directly to ground and my bonding wire is hooked back up.

I guess the moral of the story here is I should've come to the iboats forum first instead of calling support for the company that manufactures the damn things. Whooda thunk they would've made things 100 times more confusing? Well, this will just have to be left as one of life's mysteries...I'll leave it to the eventual next owner to curse the PO/me for having the sending wires all hacked up and trying to make sense of why its hooked up like it is. :)

Works like a champ...thanks all!

Here is something that help me when my fuel gauge went bad. I was told the disconnect the pink and black wire at the tank, with the switch on, touch them together and if the gauge move, it's the sender in the tank. If the gauge doesn't move you have a bad gauge. Make sure you have a good ground and power to the gauge...hope this help
