fuel sending unit

I purchased a used fuel tank (poly cross link type) with a sending unit installed, I have it hooked up normally, the pink wire to the center of the unit and the black to the clip on the side of the unit. My old unit was the same except it was aluminum and had the same sending unit with the same hook up with the exception of another wire that was spliced of the sending unit ground wire and connected to the tank as a ground. Do I need to run another wire from the black wire to a spot on the engine for ground or is the two wire hook up ok?

Re: fuel sending unit

That extra wire was grounding the tank. Metal tanks need to be connected to the ground system to help prevent sparks. You don't have to worry about it with a plastic tank.
