Fuel smell in Bilge

I recently got done restoring my boat. I had some gas spill, about 12 ounces into the bilge area of my runabout with a Mercruiser engine. I cleaned up the gas with rags, the area is now dry. However as all of you know, it stills smells very badly of gas. Is there something I can buy to absorb that odor? And am I at risk for a BOOM problem? because any carburated I/O is going to smell of gas alittle. Thanks

Gas smells linger for a long..long...........long time. Place a fan where it can blow over it . May help air out time. Can't think of any chemical way to get rid of it.

level the boat, turn off the bildge pump if you have one, pour a bottle of dawn dishwashing in the bildge, with the plug in run enough water to cover where any fuel would have been setting, let it set over night, then drain.....
ps. the scented type works better... ie.lemon

Great idea! I forgot about that. I have poured dishwashing fluid in my bilge at the end of the season and with some water in there a few boat trips later.....bam clean bilge.

Baking soda does a great job of absorbing odors too but I wouldn't leave it for very long if you boat is made of wood.
