fuel spitting out lower carb? reed problem?

someone mentioned it in another thread anyone know this for sure ? and how i might be able to fix it without going interally ? will a decarb help at all ive never done it before...

the lower carb also smokes a bit sometimes when the motor is shut off. motor runs like crap.

A leaky reed could cause that.

What outboard are you talking about?

its a 70horse merc 3cyl from 1979. it worked fine until i fried the stator after replacing the trigger (maybe 4hrs use tops) now new stator is in but lower carb is leaving oil on the plugs, aswell as spitting a bit of fuel with some smoke after i shut it off. very strange

The smoke is likely fuel vapour and my two stoke sled with out the breather on would spit back some fuel when it was running.
