Fuel Starvation

I have a 1950's model 33 horse Evinrude that I can not start because I can not get fuel to the engine. The gas tank and engine connection has two hose ports, one for air and one for fuel. I bought new gas lines and installed the primer bulb (the primer bulb has a ball inside it) to the line that feeds the fuel bowl on the engine. When I pump the primer bulb the gas comes out intermitting at best and does not reach the fuel bowl of the engine. Can someone tell me what the problem is???

The fuel primer bulb does not have a ball inside it. I would assume that one of the fuel bulb primer valves has come apart and is laying within the bulb. This would cause a malfunction. Remove the valves and correct that problem. Usually they can simply be popped back together.<br /><br />Make sure that when you put the valve(s) back together that they are assembled properly so that fuel flows in the proper direction. If you assemble a valve wrong, or install the inlet valve in the outgoing location, obviously you will have a problem.
