I just wanted to check with the guys here who have way more experience then I do before I did anything more. I am replacing my entire fuel system, filler, all hoses, tank, etc. The tank is aluminum and has an electrical sending unit. The filler is plastic. Am I correct in connecting the black wire of the sending unit to the ground tab on the tank, and then over to the negative ground of the battery? Am I correct that plastic fillers need no ground wire?

Yes, the tank needs to be grounded to the battery ground.

As for the filter, what kind of filter is it, an inline? Also don't know of a plastic filter which is marine

It is the filler....where you out the gas in. It is plastic of some type, but definately non metalic.

I had a slow morning at work so was able to look online at the Coast Guard regs and found that plastic fill necks do not need to be grounded. And from the WEMA web page, and contrary to what one would think, the PINK wire is the ground and the black wire goes to the fuel guage.

OK, its fiLLer and not filter, my bad
Agree it does not need to be grounded.

As for your wires, the pink should go to the sender and black ground

Just an FYI about the pink wire.....I was not the only one questioning the accuracy of that info. Someone in another forum went as far as to contact WEMA to clarify. They gave a technical reason as to why they made pink ground, but in the end said it really didnt matter how you hooked them up.
