i haven't seen this but am wondering if i could add a cut-off valve between the motor and fuel tank that way when i am done fishing i could cut the valve and run the motor till it runs out of fuel. this way i don't have to start her up every weekend just to make sure she doesn't gum out or anything. would this alter the motor's performance let it run out this way. any one ever do this and have suggestions?

if it is a single carb outboard motor yes. bigger motors no. what motor do you have. add seafoam to your fuel, that helps keep them clean.

i have a Mercury 50HP. Do you mean add seafoam to the fuel as an additive all the time or just at certain intervals? is this the same one that they sell for automotive or is there a difference?

Seafoam can be used in ANY engine on a regular basis to keep the fuel system clean. Just follow the directions on the container. If you have a two stroke, there is a procedure on this forum where Seafoam is used to decarb (remove carbon deposits) from the engine. There is no reason to run the engine dry after each use if the fuel is stabilized with a product like SeaFoam or Stabil. Stabil is just a stabilizer, it does not serve double duty like SeaFoam.
