I want to install a 12 gallon gas tank. This will be my auxiliary tank.
this is the tank I am looking at installing.

This is the fill neck I am wanted to install.

Attaching the fuel hose to the fill neck is pretty simple.
How can I attach the fill fuel line to the gas tank???

Obviously, I need to install a vent too, but one problem at a time.
This tank will be mounted solid with none or very little movement.
Also trying to keep cost down.

Thank in advance for some idea,

David

Re: Fuel Tank help

that tank you show is designed for outboards above floor, the vent is in the cap, and the cap unscrews to fill it, you plug the fuel line into that 2 prong thing, which is standard across most outboards...

if you want to mount a tank below deck, get one like what lrider linked too

Re: Fuel Tank help

Ok, scratch all that on the post above. you guys are right, not safe!!! I found (finally) an under deck (aluminum) fuel tank. 12 gallon. I am going to mount it in the bow.
I am still wanting to keep using my portable g/tank which is in covered hatch between the motor and driver seat.
I just want to use the 12 gal. tank as a holding tank until the portabe tank is low, then I can fill/transfer from the 12 gal. tank.

At 1st, I was looking at fuel pumps to tranfer but pumps are more than what I want to spend.
with the bow higher then the stern, can I use a primer bulb, hose setup but tie in a shutoff valve? I also will install a fill neck above desk.
Grounding the fill neck to the 12 gal. tank, where would I gound the tank? To the motor? battery?

Will this even work?
Input apreciated

David

Re: Fuel Tank help

Why not plumb both tanks into a fuel filter/water seperator? With valves you can choose which tank you would like the engine to draw from and you get the added benefit of the filter.

Something like this;

I prefer the Racor filters with the clear plastic bowl at the bottom, but this one is much less expensive.

Re: Fuel Tank help

Run another line complete with primer bulb from the front tank. Just switch it over when you want to use it. I had a 12 gallon mounted up front in my last boat and had no issues with the line running that far.

Clamp or strap the tank down. Ground the tank and ground the fill fixture to the tank. Plus use 2 stainless clamps on each end of the fill tube. The fill hose is required to have a metal ground strip through it too.
You can install a fuel sensor and gauge yourself. It's a paint by numbers operation, just leave the battery disconnected while doing the install. Test it before adding fuel and triple check everything before you apply electric power to the sender and add fuel.

Re: Fuel Tank help

Thanks Mike and Ezmobee, these are great ideas. Actually , I didn't know I could get a 3 way fuel valve. After reading your post, I looked here on iboat and they have them, pretty cheap too!
I already have a Yamaha fuel filter system installed. Now, this is going to be easier than I thought!

Oh, and Ensign, I DO have the right fuel tank so it won't BE half-@ssed!

Thanks again
