Re: Fuel Tank/Pick-Up Tube Question

I've removed mine and have the replacement ready to install. Does anyone know if it's mandatory to use a screen on the new pickup tube? I bought a replacement from Moeller and it doesn't have any kind of screen on it. I was told to just cut the tube at a 45 degree angle before installing.

atj51 - I can't imagine it's mandatory-do you have a water fuel separator in the line? I figure that will catch any tank smutz --I have had my boat 10 years and the (plastic) tank looked pretty free of any debris big enough to be stopped by the screen, so I left it off. But then, I left off the anti-siphon valve too and that is mandatory. Just look for the fireball:eek:

Re: Fuel Tank/Pick-Up Tube Question

I have had the exact same problems on my bay boat. The fuel tank is under the top cap in the floor of the boat. I only have a 6" or 8" access hole to get a wrench on the larger nut (1 1/4") and on the top of the pickup tube. But I can not get it unscrewed. Any suggestions if it wont unscrew? If I break it, then Im the one screwed.

I ended up using a basin wrench --it's the perfect tool for the job. Are you talking about the nut that the pickup tube fitting threads in to? I would'nt (didn't) mess with that. I think I read somewhere that it may be welded onto the tank.

Re: Fuel Tank/Pick-Up Tube Question

I promised...pics of my tank/pick-up tube. Can anybody tell me how the tube comes completely out?
iI was working on my boat this weekend and had same problem. There is a screen at the end of the tube, pull sharply and it should come out. the screen is what should be holding you back,no filter on mine!!

Re: Fuel Tank/Pick-Up Tube Question

How about another pick up question.
Just got my 95 Scout Dorado out last month from 1 1/2 years in storage with 1/2 tank of fuel. Tried to get gas out my siphon etc. with no luck. Ran down problem to tank pick up. Took the fitting out ( it's 2" under the deck) and that was all that came off just the aluminum 3/8 x 1/4 npt 90 degree fitting. After looking into the tank at the spot where the fitting screws into the tank (had to bore a 1 1/2" hole in the deck), there is nothing except a square end thick aluminum pipe that fills the entire hole under the threads. This pipe has a hole in it that looks to be about 3/8. There is not a sign of a tube, a fitting or anything. I can see that the pipe in the tank curves toward the center of the V tank. I called Scout to find out if there is anything unique about the pick up; they don't know, but ordered a new pick up one month ago. It still has not come in. I just ordered a 24" generic hoping to make it work. Has anyone out there see this problem?

Ok, how about a brief "how to." It's not very apparent!
