Fuel tank questions

On my Wellcraft I have a 100 gallon aluminium fuel tank that has all the usual fittings/tubes, including filler, vent, engine fuel line, and sender, but it also has a "spare" outlet which is blanked off with a square headed plug. Is this fitting normally used for fuel to drain back into the tank or has it another purpose? It is located right next to the fuel pick up and I've used it to gain access to the lower bottom end of the tank when I had to pump out some water from the tank.

On that topic, is there any wisdom to fitting a drain tap to the lower end of the tank, to allow easier draining if needs be? I think a line attached to the drain and running out through the transom plug would make life easy in this respect. FWIW I have various filters and separators fitted. This is just a long term idea.
Thanks in advance.

its most likely a second pickup for a second motor.

fastest way to drain is to pull the sender and use a fuel transfer pump.

I wouldnt add a drain port. that would add a point where it could leak.

Ayuh,.... Agreed, probably a 2nd pick-up dip-tube, for a 2nd motor,.....

'n I believe it's Illegal to have any fittin's not on the top of the tank,......
So, No, don't even think of puttin' a drain fittin' in it,.....

Wisdom would be to leave the tank as is and not put any sort of drain fitting in it.

As stated, the second fuel fitting is either for a second engine or a diesel system.

Many thanks for the responses. I kind of thought the general consensus would be not to put a drain in the tank. Suppose I just had to be told! thanks again.
