Hi all
Got a question regarding placement of 2 fuel tanks and my battery. I have the battery placed in between the 2 front seats at present but i find the long run from the outboard to the battery is taking its toll on the battery. My engine is a 1980 johnson V4 85hp. i know it needs a rebuild as it takes an age to get her running (this is probably due to the age of the engine and it may be drawing air or not having enough vacuum pressure to start )
At present i have 2 x 5 gallon plastic tanks either side of the bilge are This is in the centre aft at the back of the bench seat. My question is tis. Would it be possible to sit the battery between these tanks ? I know there is a risk of a spark next to the tanks but i will fabricate a breather from each tank going up through where the ski pole was mounted. I cant fit the tanks near the bow as i have no access to them. i need two tanks as if any of you guys owns or have owned the said V4 85hp she likes to drink the stuff.
Thanks in advance Oh and if there are any dateline bikini owners in the UK give me shout.

What about just using something like THIS and putting the battery in back? My boats have always had the tank on one side and the battery on the other side of the hull, but all of 'em in the stern.

Put the battery in a plastic marine battery box and strap it down. It can be right next to the fuel tanks, and it will be safe. The weight of the battery should be OK in the stern. However, if the boat is a bit stern heavy, stick the fuel tanks in the bow. Of course a permanent fuel tank in the bow is more convenient.
