Fuel Vent line question

Hey.

I have been having an issue with gas bubbling back out when re fueling, and gas actually pushing back out the easy fill cap when its full and a hot day out...

I took the floor panel up and have access to the vent and line. The kicker is that the line is clear.(blow air through the line and it comes out the opening on the side of the boat.

There doesnt seem to be anything blocking the vent that goes into the tank.

Is that little metal vent that screws into the tank a replace maintence item?

I'm not sure what that little metal vent that is screwed into your tank is.

My tank is set up with a fill hose and a vent hose that connects to a thru hull fitting right above the fill hose.

Ayuh,... I may be mistaken, but ain't that the motor's feed line,..??

No... that line goes to a thru hull fitting...

I have a feed line in the front middle of the tank. see attached picture..(again sorry for the cell phone quality pictures)

I have the same problem. I have a 20 gal tank. It's only about 8 or 9 inches deep. The vent line is at the back of the tank by the stern next to the fill tube. When the bow of the boat is higher than the stern, on a hot day with a full tank, gas will come out the vent line. I was thinking about moving the vent to the middle of the tank, or maybe the front? In my case, I think that the problem is aggravated by the shallow tank design.

PNWBOAT, you just made me relize the same thing about my shallow tank. Its likely just the position of the vent and the shallow tank.

I hear people talking about fill caps/tubes that are self venting. Is it possible to keep my vent tube and add a ventable fill cap/tube?

Not sure that will work because due to the design of the tank when it's tilted all the gas goes to one end and covers the vent tube and fill tube openings. When pressure builds up, it forces the gasoline out of the vent or fill tube. Only answer that I can think of is to have a vent tube in a position that does not get covered by the gasoline. That's why I was looking to add a vent in the middle of the tank or maybe at the opposite end of the tank.

Mine is at the opposite end of the tank though, If you look at my first crap picture thats is the vent tube at the front of the tank, then the second picture shows the fill tube and the feed line.

Thats why I was thinking after I read your post that if I add the vent fill tube(if such a thing exists) then if the boat is tilted at either end there would be a vent line open to vent..

If that makes any sense..
