Re: Fuel / Water Seperator

I just checked the online catalog Hooty and they say it is not listed. Do they have a different catalog in the store for Marine products?

Thanks again, sorry to be a pain.

I'm_a_learning

The one you picked on this site will work just fine. And yes, there is a separate Marine Parts Manual available at NAPA. Some have it and will give you one, others don't. They may get you one if you ask nicely. But the one you have chosen on here will more than do the job. Get an extra filter with it so you have it. It should only need to be changed once a year, unless there is a problem..

Frankly, any water sep. filter for marine use that is rated for the fuel flow you need will work fine. I've had both the "plain cannister" and the "bowl type" filters. I like the bowl type much better. Much, much easier to monitor water and drain regularly. Much less need to change the filter itself (if ever). I have a clear bowl, but think a metal bowl would serve my purposes as well. I strongly recommend you consider a bowl type filter.

Re: Fuel / Water Seperator

I was told that doing any type of modification on the fuel system of an OPTIMAX may void the garantie.

The modification ( filters , lenght of hose ... ) will cause a fuel restriction that will create a faulty information within the outboard computer program.

the computer will reduce the amount of oil to be sent to the enigine and a risk of seizure may occured.

If you intent to make change on the system you should contact a Mercury technician.

Hope this help
