Thanks - probably would have worked it out from the other PDF, but have saved this one now instead. Built my little stern dolly last night, just need to buy an alignment tool and I am good to go :)

Ah ha - thanks that is really good to know. I don't have any muffs, so will now not bother buying any. The flush pipe looks like a much better option anyway and I suspect will do a better job of removing the salt water.

Coolant - when I removed the impeller quite a lot of water came out and it looked like it had a green tinge to it (assumed that was coolant). The boat was up in Indiana, so quite possibly it was winterized and this is what I am seeing?

I was indeed referring to the contacts in the dizzy cap ;) But thanks anyway.

We have been there in my friends boat, will look out for you. I will be the only guy out there with a British accent driving a blue Monterey 194FS (no name yet).

Yes I would bet it was anti-freeze from whoever winterized it. That stuff will flush out when you run it on water the first time. Besides that, there is only water circulating around your engine unless you had a -HF model which includes a closed cooling system.

Anyone know the best place to source the alignment tool from? The Volvo one looks a little over priced! Feel sure someone has been and bought one before me....

Re: Full service Volvo Penta 5.0GL-H

So I got my alignment tool today finally. Read up on every possible thread on here + watched the youtube vidoes and am pretty sure my engine is not aligned correctly. The bar goes in and out but not as easily as I believe it should and it lacks spline marks on the bottom of the bar. So I have some questions :-

The motor mounts look pretty obvious (I think!) I assume I am meant to be adjusting the bolts at the base of the mount? One at the front and one at the back? Does the nut on top need to be loose when doing this? If so, I need a socket to fit it as my largest one is 19mm - what size is it?

Do I need to tighten the rear bolts to bring the engine down slightly? I tired to tighten the left hand one and it is as tight as it will go!

Turning the engine over? What is the easiest way to do this - i.e which wheel do I need to be turning?

Does the throttle shift need to be completely forward when checking the alignment? I seem to recall reading this somewhere?

I am trying to take my time to ensure this is done correctly.

As ever, any input is greatly appreciated :)

You may want to start a new thread with "engine type & alignment" in the subject line. This thread may have been inactive for too long to get the responses you might need, in a timely manner.
Funny that you are in treasure island... I'll be there this evening delivering my bosses boat to some people that bought it. Small world!

Thanks DDameron, I will do just that. Be warned, it is Spring Break madness here on TI at the moment!!

Feel free to pop in if you feel like giving me a hand ;)
