I tell ya 82Rude,I wish I could get my hands on a new 25hp yamaha, they run smooth as silk, not that I don't love my merc,I just rather have new. Finding a mint flawless 25-30hp 2 stroke outboard is so,so hard to find in my area(FL). I know their around but not easy to find or find someone trustworthy that's selling one.

We have some for sale in fl but they are asking rediculous prices, like $3k for a 8-10 yr old outboard. If I'm spending $3k,I'm buying a 2017 25hp 4 stroke Suzuki hands down the best 25hp all around on the market imo.

My oil experience has only involved two oils. Royal purple fully synthetic oil @ 50:1 and Pennzoil Semi-Syn 50:1. The smoke is equal between the two but the smell and cost are not. The RP had a terrible smell to it as it burns (really the wrong oil for a pre-mix carbed outboard), and burned your eyes in the driveway. The pennz gives off a sweet smell.

Regardless they both would smoke for 30-45 seconds on first fire of the day. and for 5-10 seconds on restart. Other then that, no smoke visible during running while on the water.

In a pre-mix situation, do not waste the cash on synthetic. The semi-synthetics do a great job at keeping the cost, smoke, carbon down while giving you great protection. I would run synthetic in any direct injection, fuel injected etc engine as it is a precised metered system.

I agree with Jim and 82Rude about the Evinrude oil, I have heard they are amazing oils for outboards. XD30 is cheapest, XD50 would be ideal. Bringing an empty jug to a dealer will net you around $25 for XD30 and $35 for XD50. You will still see smoke with these premium oils on a carbed outboard.

I recommend a decarbon via dunks method and a switch to pennzoil semi synthetic 50:1.

xd-30=conventional dino oil.xd-50=semi synthetic.xd-100=full synthetic. One motor removed and a few years ago I used green earth technologies G-OIL,smelled like a French fry wagon.Worst or bad part was everybody out on the lake would follow me around asking for fries and burgers,lol.P.S the motor loved that oil.

If I'm spending $25-$35 on non synthetic or semi synthetic why not just buy the royal purple or pennzoil full synthetic for the same price. You said it keeps the cost down,I pay $30-$35 for each of my oil I just mentioned so I will stick to it. Once I'm out of the royal purple then I have 5 gallons of pennzoil full synthetic oil I purchased already so that is what I'm going to use and at a 60:1 oil ratio. I love the smell of the pennzoil full synthetic oil, smells like play dough, lol. The royal purple does smell horrible but I like it so far. I may switch over to amsoil in time,if not I have my guy on ebay I get as much full synthetic oil from pennzoil I want for $35 a gallon shipped to my door. Why pay $35 for semi synthetic when I can get full synthetic for the same price and lubricates much better,I will stick to that.

I used to use the super tech oil and it was superb oil, never an issue. Now that is $13 a gallon which is really cheap for a good quality oil. It's non synthetic but I did use it for 10+yrs and it worked well.

Also from what I have read, most semi synthetic oil has very little synthetics in it,like 10% so is it really that much better having only 10%? I don't know so this is a real legit question I'm asking,if it's truly only 10% or so will it protect that much better than conventional tcw 3 oil? .

I just did allot of reading on the 100:1 saber pre mix amsoil and what makes it so good is the film strength, plus u can run it at 80:1 if you don't feel comfortable at the 100:1 ratio. It says do not run it any richer than 75:1 it says because it defeats the purpose of the oil film being so strong. It says you can run any 50:1 on the 100:1 saber oil and never have issues. In the long run that would save u a ton of money on oil if what they claim is correct. That is very interesting to say the least. Iay give it a shot at 75:1 as that would save me an astronomical amount of money in the long run on oil.
