Hopefully you did not pay too much.-----Have you asked the previous owner about this issue?

Is it possible the throttle cable is in the F R gear selector arm on the motor ? Or the cable clamps are loose ? that allows very sloppy movement on the motor control levers. The cable clamps may have been removed & lost ?

Picked it up very cheap! New it was going to be a project but the price i paid is less than the trailer it came on
Two things,

Wow many times have I heard....."picked it up for cheap"? I'd be rich beyond my wildest dreams. People can pay you to take their boat and it may be to much. Tell us in a month.

Second thing, if you fixed your cable issue.....let's all hear it?
Couldn't quite find that in this thread. Scott says he knows it and I know it too so fess up?

I had a similar issue. Appears my cable may need replaced as it’s a little hard to move back and forth (sticky). But I was able to get it to the point where the throttle (control) would open the carbs wide open by tightening the cable all the way on the motor end. Before it wouldn’t move the throttle lever far enough to move the carbs at all.

Also issues with mine not staying running, not starting, running rough. Recently mine wouldn’t even turn the flywheel more than a half turn. Replaced my starter yesterday and it fired up after some help with starter fluid. Ran 2 gallons of gas/oil/seafoam mix through it today.
