so, i got my first boat out on the water today and it runs really good but when i got going about 30mph (is what the gauge said) my steering cable broke and the boat whipped to the right really quick and i got super wet, wow what a good first trip for this boat yeah

you are extremely lucky. now install a kill switch with lanyard.

Been there, done that - TWICE! Had an old sled with stick steering that apparently was only rated for 40HP and I upgraded to a 55HP. Too much torque and SNAP! Repaired it and SNAP! It is always interesting idling back to the dock while SITTING on the engine cowl directing the boat with your butt! After the second time I got rid of the stick steering and installed a steering wheel mounted vertically beside me ... drove the boat like you were in a wheel chair. Definitely turned some heads ...
