Does anyone have any experience with one of these? I don't know jack about fish finders, but I need one. A salesman was trying to talk me into one of these at a boat show recently. Cost is about $230.00 with transducer. Apparently one of its big features is that it has dual frequencies. How would it compare to other units within the same price range?

There is no comparison to be made. The 4100 is the best inexpensive fish finder made in that price range.

Re: Furuno LS4100

The LS6100 sells for about $30 more on the same forum where you are purchasing the LS4100. Difference is a little bigger screen.

Well, for $200 bucks I might as well go ahead and bid on the same LS4100 also… :D :D :D

Re: Furuno LS4100

I don't know which fish finder you're bidding on but check and see if the transducer is included. If not one is going to cost you around $80 if you go for the in-hull or the transom mount. A thru-hull will be a lot more. Also, if the difference in price between the 4100 and the 6100 is only going to be $30 then for goodness sakes get the 6100.
Take a look at the fish finder comparison done by Power Boat Reports about 5 or 6 months ago. The Furuno LS6100 came out on top, with the Garmin 240 in second place. You know that I'm always going to pick the Furuno myself (I've been called a Furunonazi) but you might have other thoughts on it.

Thom

Re: Furuno LS4100

Last month I was talking with a couple of guys that do repair’s and modifications of hi-end sonar. They both agree nothing competes with Furuno’s internal electronics for signal processing for recreational use, in its class. Most use of Furuno’s ff’s are limited by the transducer selection. The internal electronics is capable of even higher performance.

I don't think we should have anymore discussion about how great the LS-6100 is. Joe won the auction for the LS-4100. ;)

Yep!
I got it for $199.00 and it includes the transom mount transducer with tempurature sensor.

I'll be able to see um now. I probably still won't be able to catch em, but at least I'll know they're down there. :D

Re: Furuno LS4100

I installed the LS 4100 back around Christmas. The boat finally made it to the water last Sun. when my son took it out. Depth finder worked fine. ;) Hopefully it will work better than the Raytheon L365 it replaced. One thing to consider if going to the LS6100 over the LS4100 is the fact that the 6100 is a much bigger unit and could present mounting problems on some boats.
