No, just hold it to the top post where the red battery cable connects to the solenoid.

I just want to see if it works or not. If it runs, the problem may not be in the box at all but in the switch at the control.

The solenoid is just passing the battery voltage from the top large post to the bottom large post. The two small wires at the sides of the solenoid turn it on and off. If the solenoid is new, then it should be somewhere else.

If that were my rig. I would rewire with two solenoids as close to the motor as possible, and use the control switches just for activating the solenoids.

So what would two solenoids do for me? Just give it more power to lift and lower? Since I bought a solenoid and I know the one I had on there works, I could use those, right? Wire it the same way?

If I hook it up and the motor tilts up, then it has to be in the switch wiring someplace , correct? It is a new solenoid and all the contacts are cleaned. So that would have to be it huh?

Well I figured out what the problem actually was.

Two of the wires were fused together. It must have shorted out and heated up and it just melted them together. They were all melted.

So I ripped it all out. Tonight I am spending some quality time with the boat and getting all the wires correct.

What a pain. Oh well, at least I can go fishing now.
