i have a volvo penta 250a/ sp
my fuse (PART #856355 55A) blew i think, and am looking to replace it. can i use any 55A fuse ( non marine)? this fuse is a big red weird looking plastic thing that is bolted to my engine at deck level on port side with a big red power wire going to it from the starter and a black wire going to electric tilt. why is the wire black? ty

What do you mean by "You Think" you don't know if it's blown or not? Did you test it? In an earlier post, you said you was going to get a test light. Just touch both terminals if only 1 lights, the fuse is bad, if both terminals light up the fuse is good. If neither terminal lights up you don't have power to the fuse.

To answer your question, a 55A glass fuse or even the newer Maxi Fuses that looks like the ATO/ATC fuses will work. Just make sure you have a fuse holder and wiring capable of handling the load.

Re: FUSE question

Before you replace the fuse determine why it blew in the first place. Otherwise buy more than one as you will likely need them.
