So I decided to do a decarb last night using the 1gal 1can method on the muffs. I start it up and run it for a few minutes, normal operations etc. fine. Shut it down, turn hose off, take a break. I come out for another run, start her up and . . .

la la

. . .

holy . . . I FORGOT TO TURN THE HOSE ON!

Only ran it for about 15 sec. No apparent damage, and it still pumps good. But, I'll be replacing an impeller tonight anyway.

It was probably still lubricated from the first round of decarbing, but I can see how it would scare the heck out of you. Good thing you caught it quick.

Re: Gah - silly little mistakes.

A noob question, but what is the " 1 gallon 1 can method"?

I just decarbed tonight, and left it in there. I had to hook up a nozzle that came off of the can to my vacuum pump. Looked like the nozzle on a bicycle inner tube. The can said to leave it in there from 3 to 16 hours. I assume that's ok since I'm leaving it in there overnight.

What's the 1 gallon method you spoke of?

It's in the decarb faq, but it's basically mixing one gallon of premix (or gas with a vro) with one (or thereabouts) can of seafoam in a portable tank. There's variations on the theme involving using half to 3/4 can and dumping the rest in the carb bodies, etc..

What about 5-7 seconds?

I know it probably means little, but I'm heading out on 5 day trip next week. I take no easily preventable chances with equipment.

According to this, you would want to change the impellor if you did a compression, or ignition test without cooling water on. 15 seconds? stop scaring yourself.

15 seconds? I was cranking my 125 Force trying to see the marks, to set the timing for a few minutes at a time, never gave it a thought to put the hose on, Duh! and the impeller didn't look too bad, atall.

Well, it's done. Good thing too, I had a partially melted vane.
