Wrong or defective ignition switch. Re-wire it so one lead to the choke button comes off the ingition switch "B" or "Bat" terminal instead of the "A" or "ACC" terminal.

thank you, that chokes been such a big pain hopefuly that will fix it. I have another question at the end of the season last year the tach started acting up when it idles its accurete but when you go up to 1700-2000 the tach will shoot rite up to 5000rpms and stays there till the motor revs up all the way what is the reason for this?

Don't know. Never saw a tach do that.

Try cleaning the connections on the back of the tach; shine each terminal rig up good. Worked for me.
