Does anyone know if anyone sells carb kits for gale outboards? I have a little 5hp buccaneer that needs a carb kit. It uses johnson coils and impeller, but am not sure about carb kit. If anyone has any idea, I'll go outside and get the serial # if that would be helpful. Just curious right now if it'd be possible. Also, I'd like to see a picture of a 5hp buccaneer if anybody has one. I can't find one anywhere and would like to paint mine close to original if I could see what one looks like.
Thanks,
JBJ

Sure would help answer your question if we knew which 5hp Gale we are talking about. Concerning the carb, there are 2 basic types, one type having a choke and the other type having a single knob on the front which controls mixture and when turned all the way to the left it holds the float down for priming. The kind with the choke is the same as it's Johnson /Evinrude cousins. The kind with the primer is U-Make-it parts.

I have a few pictures, again depends on which one.

F-R,
It's a model 5D10B, serial # 373292.
Any ideas or pics or even what year it is? My only problem is a leaky fuel shut off valve. Can you make a part for this? OUT of what??
Thanks,
JBJ

The 5D10B was made from 1951 thru '54. The fuel shut off valve is part number 590607, no longer even in the book. The packing for it is part number 551097, still available. As I remember, it is a leather packing. Are you sure it is the valve that is bad or the seat in the carburetor? Either one might be a bit tough to deal with.

The closest thing to it that I have a picture of is the 1955 Ad.
