Hi,

I was wondering if someone can help me. I have a gamefisher 3hp model#298-586193. I run it onetime and shut it off and now i don't have no fire. I can put a sparktester inline with the spark plug and spark plug wire, but no fire, then i can take the tester and ground the spark plug side of the tester and the tester will light up. some help would be much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure that is a Tanaka TOB 300.Remove the plug. With the wire connected ground the plug to a bare part of the block holding it with insulated pliers.Have an assistant crank it over.Should have blue spark with an audible snap.
If it has points They should be clean and set at .013.Check the air gap .013,between the coil legs and the flywheel Not likely to be a problem unless someone fiddled with the coil scxrews. I usually use a file card to set this on any motor.

I've been running a Tanaka/Gamefisher 3HP on my canoe for 25+years now, so have a good bit of experience on that motor. If it's one of the later models then it has electronic ignition with no points, pull shroud off and check your wiring, flywheel, kill button, etc. My first one was a 1983 with points but my later one I bought had the electronic ignition and never had any spark problems at all. You may have a fuel delivery problem or a fouled plug. They can be pretty sensitive to fouled plugs, so I always keep spares on hand. I don't think the plug voltage on this little motor is as high as some of the bigger, more modern outboards. My 90HP Yamaha has never fouled a plug. Good luck and let us know how you do with it!
