I am working on a gamefisher 1.2 for a coworker. I have found parts for it however am unsure of the type of oil to use. The motor says to use a 50 to 1 mix. The motor is air cooled so my question is do I use the same oil that I would for my chainsaw and weed wacker or is there some other oil I should be using. Motor says A B I A approved oil. I havent a clue as to what that means.

Re: Gamefisher 1.2 fuel mix

If it's air cooled, use oil for an air-cooled engine. That is weedwacker/chainsaw two stroke (TC rather than TC-W3) oil. The principal difference is air-cooled two stroke oils are designed to work at the higher temperatures found in air cooled engines.

PS - the 1.2 is made by Tanaka. They have some helpful resources (parts books and owners manuals) online at their website:
http://www.tanaka-usa.com/index.php?section=160
Q. What gas / oil mix do I need to use for my outboard?
A. 50:1 gas / oil. Be sure and use oil that is designed for air cooled motors (BTW - Tanaka oil works great!!) not water cooled motors. Owner's manual says 25:1. This is incorrect for today's gas and oil formulas?

Re: Gamefisher 1.2 fuel mix

Thanks for the quick reply Paul. I downloaded the owners manual and have ordered a new fuel cut off switch. I will stick with the 50 to 1 mix and use oil that I have for my weed wacker. The reading I found on this motor says that Tanaka quit building these motors because of EPA regulations. I can see why. Doing a quick start the thing sure smokes to beat hell.
