i have a approx 30 yo old gamefisher 3.5 hp outboard havent cranked in 10 years i put new fuel lines on it filled with fuel but just cant seem to get it to crank. It ran like a champ last time i used it . Took cover off and changed spark plug then grounded it but no spark visible when cranking. Any suggestions in breathing life back into this out board. model#217-585280 serial# 08-163204 Thanks Riley

Ya gotta post a model number - It'll look like 217.XXXXXX. After 10 years, the carb will likely need a cleaning,.

I have a early elgin Mod. # 571 584 2.5 h.p. Must be 60 years old. Picked it up years ago and it has been laying around. I cleaned the carb-fuel tank and gas lines. And it runs good. My advice is clean the carb on table with cloth. (Tiny parts) The water pump is shot so back on the stand for now. Good luck there great little engines. Bsandy

I would not use ebay for parts - of all things, the carb to reed gasket thickness of aftermarket stuff will screw up the relationship of timing and throttle position. You have a points motor, and you can often get the points and condenser at Napa, as they were Tecumseh dealers. Get part numbers here;

There isn't really a kit I don't think - Get a needle and seat, a fuel pump element, bowl o-ring for the carb, and an impeller. When you get the impeller, don't forget the drive pin, too. Make sure the impeller can slide on the drive shaft, you don't want it binding. There's an o-ring in the bore of the water pump housing where the water tube goes you should also replace.

Then call these people to get parts;

No spark - most likely culprit is dirty points (if that model has them). File them shiny clean and check that you get good contact with an ohm meter.

Re: gamefisher 3.5 hp

people on ebay sell new quality old stock and new parts. A lot of boat stores sell their parts on there. Ive been buying on there for years and sometimes you can save alot of money. Its all about the benjamins.... You'd be surprised at stuff Sears no longer carries that you can find on there as new old stock. Alot of these OLD motors people sell for parts on there as well. Do your research and look around. Ive bought garbage NEW parts from alot of the places people recommend on here and its a learning experience. Its sux to spend good money on parts to find that they fail so soon. Just saying
