gamefisher 5hp

I bought an ob at a yard sale, this is the first ob I have ever had. It is a 1982 Gamefisher. It runs but is very rough. I have checked the float level but is still runs rough, such as engine surge. would the reed assembly cause this kind of problem. I have not had much experience with 2 stroke engines.

Did you clean the carb thoroughly? New gas and oil? Spark Plugs? Points? Float level should be parallel to the carb body when inverted...

Thanks Rick, I installed new points. new plug and clean oil and gas, I am thinking maybe a new kit would help if I can find one.
