Sorry i know this isnt the right forums but as far as i can see, there is no forum for gamefisher engines here.

Today i was blasting down the lake in my old meyers 1974 12'vhull. The engine was doing great! However
on our way back to the other end of the lake and at full throttle, the engine revved really high like a clutch
slipping in a geo metro. I took it to idle and we took off again but i was only able to maintain half throttle, then it started reving high again. i was able to take it another 1/4 mile at just above idle until it finally stopped turning the prop.
I put it in reverse and it did work but slowly started doing the same thing until even reverse was dead.

if this was a car or bike id be screaming CLUTCH!!! However im new to boating and outboards.

Guys i need someone input on where to start on this issue. This is frustrating to say the least.

Thanks in advance!

Depending on the prop, you could have a slipping prop hub, broken drive pin or stripped splines on the drive shaft.

if the hub is spun, does this mean a new prop must be ordered? trying to figure this all out on the fly. no videos exist as far as i can tell about dxing i spun hub on this engine and other like videos are not very helpful.

ok just got back from the garage. i put the engine in drive and then tried turning the prop. it spins almost effortlessly in both directions. took off the prop and there is melted plastic coming out from in between the prop and hub. i grabbed some channel locks and tried to turn the shaft and cant do it much and the flywheel is responding to my attempts. so im guessing everything from the engine to the prop mount shaft is fine. looks like i need a new prop :(

It sounds like you have found your problem... But if you want to know for sure you can scribe a line from the hub to the prop and then make it over rev as you described...... Then check to see if the scribe mark has gone out of alignment.....
