I have lurked on this sight for some time and have enjoyed the information I have found and used. I have posted a few times on here with great success and I feel confident someone here has seen this before. Any help will be appreciated.
Without being to winded....I bought this motor new in '96 (225) I put maybe 50 hours on it before I sold my boat. I kept the motor and stored it in my garage for 10 years without ever running it. I drained the gas and put WD40 in the cylinders but only once over those 10 years.
I bought a new boat and trailer to go with the motor. It started quickly after I put the gas to it but it would not pump water. It did run till it shut down hot. I dropped the lower unit and sure enough the impeller was shot. I ordered the new impeller and while it was shipping I checked compression to make sure that was o.k. and was not hurt by getting hot - 150'ish each cyl.
Impeller comes in today. I put it in and go to start it and after the third pull it almost dislocated my fingers. After checking a few things I figure it is was a compression thing. I pull the plugs and a white milky mixture is on the bottom spark plug. I pull the cord and more milky stuff comes out of the bottom cyl. I am lost....It never did this at anytime over the last week especially not during the compression test. I drop the lower unit again to check for anything obvious.....nothing. I pull the cord some more and it is doing the same thing with no end in sight.
I am thinking this
1. Water in the fuel tank, now in the carb, now in the cyl? It is being emulsified by the compression?
2. As I spin the motor the new pump is putting water in the jacket.....cracked cylinder? The compression does not indicate this though?
3. Did something happen when checking the compression, i.e. scarred the piston?
What do you think? I appreciate any help or insight........
