someone gave us a gamefisher 4.5hp motor. the alum. is kind of pitted and you cant pull the rope to start. someone told us parts are hard or impossible to get. is that true? is it worth trying to fix or should we just scrap it now i would say its at least 10 to 15 years old if not older. thanks for all help.

Re: gamefisher repairs

4.5s were made by Eska from 1971-74. They use Tecumseh powerheads. Running, they're worth ... not much. Not working, they're worth ... not much. Find the model number and plug it into the www3.sears.com website and you'll see what is and isn't available. There are motors worth the effort and those that aren't. That one might be with minimal effort if you have a use for it.

Re: gamefisher repairs

These motors seem to be given away a lot.
Reputation is a little shakey.Noisy, lots of vibration, require some tinkering to keep running, some parts are impossible to find and can be expensive.
If you can get it to run without much $ it might be a fun project.
