i have a gamefisher 15hp 225.581508 its the 96 model. Everything is running great now after some fuel pump and gasket and fuel line replacements but my question is what do i gap the plugs too? I have a manual that says use champion L82YC whick i have just bought 2 brand new ones. Now the manual says to gap them to 0.040. The plugs come from the factory as 0.030 and the book at the store where i got them from says use 0.030. So which ones do i use? the old plugs have some rust around where the wrench tightens them not too bad but like a few flakes. Like i said it runs fine but want to replace them. So far i cant find a champion Marine plug that is L82YC, that part number is like an all purpose plug. Should i try to find a marine plug since ill be using the motor in the Chesapeake Bay? And what gap to use dont want to burn up any points or other electrical stuff by gapping too much.

Re: gamefisher spark plug gap

Set them at .035......good nuff..you don't have points, it being a 96. You don't need Marine plugs. Little bit of rust on the body is nothing, and affects the plug itself none whatsoever.
