Good Moring

I am borrowing I believe to be a 1986 Gamefisher 7.5hp for my sailboat.
I have been trying to get it running. I've changed the orange rubber fuel pump in the carb since it was ripped and I know need to know how many turns should I start out with when adjusting the fuel/air needle on the carb? It's running but only for about 30 sec to a minute. I think that is my problem.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Matt

It is important that the idle adjustment screw be one
full turn from closed, and that the rod setscrew be
down (6 o'clock position) when connecting the rod and
coil.

Re: gamerfisher 7.5 gas/air needle valve

Your symptoms are identical to those I describe in a post above:

<Took more pulls to crank than normal and then would die after a minute or less---evidence of a carb with some gummed up old gas in it. Since I ALWAYS run them dry before storing I knew that it couldn't have much gum in the carb so I allowed it to sit a while and tried it again with the same result. So I again allowed it to just sit for a while. Next time was the charm---by then the fresh gas had dissolved dried deposits and it lit off and ran cheerfully.>

My motor has been ran within the last year so the stoppage wasn't completely hardened and still subject to being dissolved by fresh pre-mix.
But your carb may have deposits that have already turned to varnish and will dissolve VERY slowly if at all. Even if you've already done so clean ALL passages & jets in the carb with carb cleaner and blow out with compressed air while still wet with the cleaner.
