I went out and bought champion QL16V gapless spark plugs because of the long trips with WOT i take down the Atchafalaya River in south louisiana. I was told this would be a better plug application for these trips. Is this true before I put these plugs on? It's too far down there to be fowling plugs with no paddle. anyone have experience with these plugs or similiar ones? any advice taken.

Hey greenhead, I agree with the recommendation that you received about the surface gap plugs. Past experience showed me that the surface gaps will actually increase RPM at W.O.T. in the same engine over the regular gap type (ground electrode). However, I would not recomend these for best all around performance, they are terrible for extended idling periods. Watch the gators at W.O.T.

On my Force 50, they work better, but on my Merc, they foul faster than gapped plugs. I have been thinking about finding a "Splitfire" replacement in the same temp range. However, I have not found a direct cross-referenc, or seen them recommended.
