Hi All:

I am planning a deck boat purchase (18'- 20') and need a little help on what size boat - with trailer - will fit in a 3-car garage.

I have 22'x 9' feet inside my garage available for storage. Will a trailored Four Winns 190 Horizon I/O fit within this space? Generally speaking, on I/O's how far does the power unit extend from the transom?

Thank's in advance.

Mark Molnar

IntrepidSB,

Plan on 2 ft on the rear :( for the I/O plus at least another 3 ft on the front :( for the trailer tongue.
That leaves you about 17 for the boat.
Its possible that you can get one of those trailers that have the folding tongue and you can save a few feet there. :)

I would recommend measuring the actual boat. Some boats say they are 20 ft but that includes the swim platform with the I/O tucked under it. In that case the I/O may not even stick out. The biggest problem will be the trailer tongue. If its less than 3 ft, the boat wont be able to be trailered properly because it wont allow the tow vehicle to turn.

Overall its going to be rough getting a boat that large in the garage. You may want get a portable shelter and park it under that. Not the prettiest, but at least it will fit. Or better yet, simply cut a groove in the garage door so that the tongue can stick out :D :D :D

Bottom line, bring your tape measure when you go shopping.

Nav

My 16' with motor raised up, takes up 22'of space.

My neighbor had to add on 2' to his garage to get his Lincoln Mark's to fit inside. I suppose you could build a dog house addition to the back of your garage and back the outdrive into it. Depends on how much extra length you need.

Intrepid,

Four Winns offers a fold away tongue as an option on their in house brand of trailers. That alone will save you two feet. I doubt you can get the 20' in that garage.

The dealer should be able to give an overall dimension.

IntrepidSB
When You messure do not forget to messure the height on the trailer. Most Garage doors only 7 feet high. My 21 foot runabout way to high to go thru door.

Sounds like you will be trying to max the boat to the space.
I do not know if you will make it, but you will have to measure everything on each boat.
Doors also hang down into the garage at times.
As you get to the max, getting it into the garage each time will be more difficult.
My folks have a garage that I could use(9x23)
I really do not know if I could get a 17ft skiff into it due to the angles(90 degree turn) and elevations. (Drive goes down, turns, then up into the garage, and the garage is also on the wrong side of the drive) Would not be fun on a day to day basis.

Re: Garage Storage Help

My 20' fits perfectly in my 25' garage...diagonally across all 3 stalls. I've forgotten what a garage is supposed to be used for.
