Garboard drain Replacement

I need some help. A friend has a fiberglass boat that has a garboard drain whose screw holes are stripped out. I'm wondering about the correct way to fix this problem and remount the drain..

The boat is a 2002 Glastron SX175. I am not anywhere near the boat and I have no pictures to provide. I am doing phone chat with the friend so he can effect the correct repair.

I keep hearing people say to use 5200 on screw holes, but I assume that is to seal the screws. My case is where the screw holes are stripped. My friend says that it appears that the transom is thick enough so that he could use slightly longer screws to get a bite. I'm guessing that a person would not want the screw to protrude into the bilge area. Not having drilled into fiblerglass myself, would a small pilot hole be advisable for the extra screw length if that is the way to go?

The last part concerns the sealant to use between the drain and the gel coat. Some say 5200, others say 4200. Or is there something better?

The holes can be filled with Marine-Tex or PC-11, pilot holes re-drilled and screws with 5200 inserted...

I assume the Drain has 3 screws. I'd recommend filling the 3 existing holes with 5200, spinning the drain a few degrees so the holes line up on fresh glass, redrill, and sink the screws into the new holes using 5200 on the new holes and screws as well.

Suggestions sound good. What sort of sealant should I use between the drain and the gel coat? I've heard not to use 5200 in case you ever need to remove the drain.

I'd use 5200 cuz the only time you would need to remove the drain would be if the transom was bad and then it wouldn't be a problem.
