Garmin 160 broken connector pins

Hi all, after a few days successful fishing in Ireland, someone tried to plug in the connector unit into the back of the fishfinder, and badly bent the top two pins on the unit. After trying to straighten them, they broke off. The unit still works, but only in simulator mode
I have taken the back off the unit and found that the wiring goes to two white connector blocks onto the board.
Is it possible to get hold of the cabling without replacing the whole unit? I tried taking one of the connector blocks off the unit, but it seemed fairly tight, so I didn't want to cause any more damage

Have you tried asking Garmin? Seems they would be the only source.

Hi JB, never thought of that! Just emailed them so will wait for a response. There is a used unit on ebay that I could buy as a last resort, although there is a Garmin 240 unit going a lot cheaper. Looking at the unit, it seems that the pins on the back of both units are the same...

I have a Garmin 120 portable and have just ordered parts to hook it up in my boat for the summer. There is no problem getting parts. That power cord is about $20. You should be able to order it through your local dealer or online.

If I understand you, it's the connection in the unit that has broken. I had an Eagle do that a while back and since it was working fine, I figured I had nothing to lose by direct wiring it. I removed the back, cut the wires and soldered it direct. You would need to solder the new connection block anyway. Of course now I can't remove it easily from the boat, but it works and the repair was free. Just a thought.

Hi fishmen111, you are quite correct, it is the internal wiring I'm trying to replace, not the external 13 pin connector lead, which is fine. There is a Garmin 240 for sale which appears identical to the 160 connector, so I might upgrade the unit to that, and use the existing power and transducer lead.
