Ok so, got a new boat. My brother took the fish finder out of the old boat. He tried to hook it up in the new boat. There is no fuse on the new boat... So could he have shorted it out? It really sucks because I use my finder alot and I cant even get it to power up. He may have pulled the wire from the harness I hope. I havent had too much time to check it out. Im guessing the unit is toast but would like some input.

You need to check for 12V on the power input first.

Don't forget to put a fuse in case of a short. Check for power and ground.

I tried it on another battery... Still a no go. It looks like there is a female connector missing from the harness. All of the prongs except one have a corresponding female connector. I am not sure if it fell out or if it was never there... I cant seem to find my tester to see if there is maybe just a short in one of the wires... I really think the unit is toast. But I am not sure yet. Really sucks considering I just bought it a couple months ago. But what can I say I got if to 30 dollars of craigslist with the transducer.

PK,

Take a real close look at the connector. You mentioned that the receptacle has one more socket than the connector has pins. I have seen on many occasions when a pin gets pushed back into a connector. A little minor surgery is usually all that is requried to remedy the situation.

If you fell like taking it to the next level, get a voltmeter and methodically probe around on the pins of the connector until you find power. If you can't find power on the connector then the problem must be in either the cable, the connector, or the source. (If you have any crimp on terminals on the end of the cable where it connects to the power source make sure that they are not corroded or loose.)

There is also the possibility that you just have a little corrosion on the connector or receptacle. But this doesn't sound too likely since the unit just isn't that old.
