I aM looking at the Garmin GPS MAP 3205 and the Lowrance GlobalMap 7200. There are benefits to each and I was wondering if anyone had either of them and what they like and don't like about them.

I love the 3D view and the aerial shots that the Garmin offers and I like that I can a little more to the lowrance in the future.

This will be my first GPS/chartplotter, thanx.

Re: Garmin Vs. Lowrance.....

The Garmin comes with built in charts with the option to add the G2 charts with auto-routing and 3d visualization. You can add a fish finder, XM weather, XM stereo and radar to the unit as options.

The Lowrance unit requires the purchase of base maps and 3d visualization and auto-routing are not offered. The only options are radar and satellite radio. The Lowrance has NEMA 2000 so you could also add a fuel sensor if you wanted to.

Unless you can get a great deal on the 3205 I would seriously think about jumping up to the more popular 3206 or the 540 that has better screen resolution.

FWIW: I?m running a 4208. I'm very satisfied with the performance and Garmin?s support of the product line has been outstanding.

Garmin has released 2 software upgrades so far that not only addresses some of the feedback from users but have actually added features to the product to support some of the new peripherals that have come on the market.

Not many companies actually add features to a unit after the sale. :)

Check out the Lowrance LCX 27. It has an extra large screen. I have one and really like it. Plus Lowrance is giving a rebate on them right now.
