Can anyone help me out here...I have a 75 Mercury 150 inline 6 that runs fine on top end but I have trouble getting it to plane out when I hit the throttle it falls on its face. I can overrev the motor in neutral and then slam it into gear and it takes off; runs on full speed without missing a beat until I stop again and the same thing happens. I have had the carb adjusted and some timing work done recently but I don't know what to do about this problem. Any input would be helpful. This was yesterday and today a Dealer told me that the motor may have swallowed a reed. And that was because a bit of gas was/is coming out of the center carb but the cyclinders had good compression......$$$...Rebuild...$$$ Is what they are telling me can anyone help...Thanks..GMM

'afternoon GMM,

don't know your motor but ordinarily, it's not terribly difficult to pull the carb(s) and reed box(es) to take a look.

if you've got a spent reed, you need to attend to it before the problems escalate.

if you haven't got one, you ought to consider getting a service manual. they are worth their weight in gold when it come to crawling through the intestines of your o/b.

let us know what you find.

Good Luck
