Gas coming out of bowl vent jet after rebuild

I just rebuilt the carb on my 1980 mercury 40 hp moter serial #5992846. I placed the carb on the moter and began to prime the moter. When you sqeeze the bulb gas squirts out of the float bowl vent jet. I have not tore it back apart yet But I figure the valve seat got knocked loose or is stuck or the float levers are not adjusted right. Does that sound about right? also What is the right setting for the float levers? I do not have a book yet but will soon. thanks Bryan

Yes..something is stuck, or under the needle. You will have to disassemble the carb and start over.<br /><br />If you have the side mount float. Set the spring to 2.4 mm or just replace it. Sometimes when reinstalling the float it gets caught on the actuators.<br /><br />TMD
