Re: gas float sensor

my fuel gauge says full all the time. I pull out float sensor and the arm is only about 5 inches . the problem is the tank is 11 inches deep .Could this be the right gauge ? How long should the arm be??

Re: gas float sensor

It isn't how long the arm is but rather what the range of it's swing is. If the swing is too little, the arm needs to be longer but still not so long it hits the side of the tank. Let the arm hang down and have someone measure from that point to the point where it is fully up. That dimension should be about 10 to 10-1/2 inches if the tank is 11 inches deep. If the gauge reads full all the time, then it is possible the arm is hanging up on something in the tank. The only other thing that can cause a constant full reading is if the "S" terminal on the gauge is shorted to ground. That represents zero ohms and therefore the gauge reads full. This is very possible if the nut that secures the pink wire to the sender is turned such that the connecting wire under the sender flange shorts to the vertical portion of the sender. Do a search as I've posted how that happens complete with pictures.
