Gas from last September, OK?

Hi everyone, <br /><br />Well last September I filled up the 25 gallon tank on my boat, dropped it in the water, ran for about 20 minutes and blew the engine. So the tank is pretty full. I removed the engine and capped off the line going to the tank. Should I dump this gas and start over with fresh stuff? Or can I add anything to it at this point?

I would not take a chance. Have the tank drained, change the fuel filters and start your new motor on some fresh new gas. I would hate to see you start up your new motor and suck up a bunch of resin and keep you out of the water.

Yeah I'd hate that too, I just don't know what I'm going to do with the 25 gallons of gas. I think I'll go buy a few 5 gal containers and keep the old stuff for the lawnmower, weedwhacker, snowblower, ATV's, etc. Or maybe a GIANT BONFIRE!!! Haha.

i'd empty 5-10 gallons for the weedwacker, add some fuel system cleaner, and top off with new gas. sweeten the fuel as we call it in the navy. should be fine.

what Mattttt25 says. Next year I would add a gas stabilizer when putting it away.

Yeah, I'd just top it off with some premium, since one of the reason gas "goes bad" is because it loses octane. Gas also goes bad alot slower when it is a large amount. (like 25 gallons)

If it were an outboard,I would say get rid of it .Since it is not ,as stated add fresh premium and some marvel mystery oil or seafoam and you will be fine.Charlie

That gas is fine, it doesn't turn into slelc(X), shalack (X), cheluk (X), oh heck, sludge in 7 months. If you want to be sure, drain 10 gallons and put it in your truck and add 10 gallons on premium (93 octane) and dry gas, then let her rip.<br />Stalker

There's nothing wrong with dry gas, although it's usually pointless to use. The only thing it is is alcohol. In the winter time 10% of the gas you get at the pump is already alcohol, so using something like heet will have absolutely no effect. It probably would be helpful in a boat since usually they only get summer gas.

Growing up in CT we put the 26foot Stamas away at the end of September, fill the 60 gallon tank, pull it out in April and never would have a problem, and I know my dad has a 32ft Lurs in CT and for the last 12 years he has filled both 80 gallon tanks in September and fires it up in April, also never has a problem. A whole lot of people up north do it every year, and especialy now won't be looking to dump out any fuel, there going to burn it. You will be fine.

if you're really worried, there's a product called "Start-Fresh" sold at BoatUS or West Marine that you add to your tank in the spring---it's supposed to "wake-up" the fuel and reduce any tendancy for gumming,etc. I've used it for the past 4 years in the spring--can't tell if it works but I havne't had any problems with my gas (I fill up in the fall and add Sta-bil)

i use 92 non-oxygenated gas in the tank for the winter, so there is no additives like alcohol that will seperate, never had a problem after 6 months of sitting
