Never had a boat with a built in gas tank before. Could it be coming from the sending unit in the tank. Thanks for the help

Re: Gas Fumes

It could be coming from anywhere!!!:% You need to start doing some serious searching, before those fumes blow you or someone else up!!!!!

Re: Gas Fumes

Fish, You need to check the sender unit cover to find out if it is leaking. They usually do not!

Also, the tank must be vented through the hull to the outside. Check this hose for leaks. The fill must be mounted on the exterior of the hull also. Check this hose for leaks. If these are both good, you may have a leak in the tank. It is best to find and fix ASAP. If you have an I/O, recommend you do not start it up. For an outboard motor, you probably won't blow up if you start it up.d:)

Hope you didn't use any automotive-type circuit breakers or in-line fuse holders.

Aluminum gas tanks are easily corroded by saltwater. If the fittings are OK, check the tank surface. If you can even see it.

Thanks Everybody checked sending unit and was dry fill hose was also dry. Went on vacation last week ran great what I was told to try was to fill the tank (it is a plastic tank) up to the brim full as it can by a local marina i did that and found no liquid leaks. The boat sat out in a bad rain storm 2.5 inches of rain fell pumped the bilge out and no rainbow colors on the water I know it sounds crazy. I think there is a vent line that is leaking only because i can keep a full tank of gas. Thanks again

p.s. fuel economy on 4-strokes is awsome coming from a old 40 mariner magnum gas hog

Re: Gas Fumes

Is it posible for a vent line or gas line to get saturated no vissable leaks. I just found 2.5 feet of line that just really smells bad of gas but is not wet. Could the inner liner of the line failed somehow. Thank You.

Not sure but it's a cheap fix so I'd install new hose either way.
