I have had the 1997 glastreon 185gs with a 4.3 Volvo for a few weeks now....Its worked great...last weekend the gauge was getting low...close to empty....I bought $80 worth of gas to put in the boat...After 20 litres or so it started overflowing....I waited for a bit and got another 5 or so litres in before it was overflowing...It seemed full but the gauge never went above half....Any thought what might be wrong...All connections seem to be on....They are the original Faria gauges. Thanks

Re: gas guage not properly working

First, you want to be careful topping off a boat tank. Not recommended, as gas can slosh out the vent in rough conditions. Even thermal expansion can send it out the vent if you don't use it right away.

Anyway, your problem is a very common one in older boats. The gas sensor is a float in the tank, and years of gas (and ethanol) will eventually destroy the float and sending unit. Try to find the access point to the top of the tank and see if you can remove it and replace. (Note, there are some boats where this is impossible unless you cut a deck access hatch on top.)

Thanks...The floor above the tank has been factory made to remove the section over the tank....I will try to get it out....This is the first time it has happened.

Since we're on the topic, anyone found any other senders than Moeller that are worth the money?
