Hi all.
I have a 1987 80 hp 3 cyl. sn. ob167346
Some how I have got gas in my oil tank. I guess what I need to know, is there a check valve built into the oil pump to keep the gas from feeding back to the oil tank?
I think I caught it in time. It ran fine last weekend. I got home and was just checking things over an happend to notice that the oil seemed to "SPLASH AROUND" more than oil sould. I drained the tank and it was mostly gas. Is there any other way I could be getting gas in there.
I just got done running a compression test and all three cyl were at 110 lbs.
Also can I just disconnect the oil injection or is there something else I have to do to bypass it and mix my own.

thanks. Steve

Could be a bad ck valve or that the gas tank vent was left closed causing high presure in the fuel tank to overcome the ck valve--Bob

Bob;
Thanks so much for the quick reply. I just went out and checked my vent and it was open.

Where is the checkvalve. Is it in the oil pump itself, and if so is it repairable.

I stoped by the local dealer but the very nice young lady behind the counter said " It could be anything. You'l have to bring it in" Well I don't mind bringing it in but I don't want to just give them an open checkbook if you know what I mean.

I am pretty handy and think I can fix this if I knew what to check.

Thanks again. Steve

It should be at the or near the fuel pump, a brass fitting in the line from the oil tank

Thanks again Bob;
Mine has no brass fitings. Maybe thats my problem. lol. I have the onboard tank and only have a plastic line from the tank directly to the pump. Nothing between. Any other thoughts?

Also how do I disconect the pump, and mix my own? Do I need to remove pump or can I just bypass it?

Thanks. Steve

Steve, it is the fitting at the fuel pump. Look on BAM Marine parts site, use your engines serial number and look at the fuel pump you will see it. Let us know--Bob

I have the same engine s/n ob15..... I disconnected the oil injection when I bought the engine. The alarm only tells you when you're low on oil, not when there's a leak or broken pump. I'd rather clean my plugs than risk frying the engine since I run solo a lot at odd hours. I have unlimited towing but rather not test it. I just sealed off the oil pump fittings but I believe there's a plate available if you want to remove the pump. I haven't bothered reading up on the injection pump yet.

Bob;

Thanks for the tip on the check valve. I just ordered a new fuelpump cover plate that has a new check valve in it. I also ordererd a new diaphram kit for the fuel pump. Thanks again, the manual I have sure leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to the oil injection.

Baitis;
Thanks for your help on my problem. I think I am going to try to fix what I have rather than disconect it, but if that doen't do it I will be Mixing my own like you.

Thanks again.
Steve
